WHAT IS PHYSIOTHERAPY?
Physiotherapy is the treatment and prevention of injury and disease by natural methods. These methods involve many varied skills gained over several years of extensive recognised training in order to achieve the title Chartered Physiotherapist. The aim of physiotherapy is to help alleviate pain, restore normal movement and function patterns and help return the body to its natural balanced state where possible.
Physiotherapists employ a wide range of skills to achieve this including,
∙ Mobilisation
∙ Manipulation
∙ Electrotherapy
∙ Muscle balancing technique
∙ Exercise
∙ Rehabilitation
∙ Relaxation
∙ Re-education
∙ Acupuncture
What conditions can physiotherapy treat?
∙ Injuries to ligaments, muscles and tendons.
∙ Low back pain including sciatica.
∙ Neck pain and whiplash injures including referred arm pain.
∙ Joint pain and stiffness including frozen shoulder and after fractures.
∙ Sports injuries
∙ Arthritis
∙ Work related conditions such as repetitive strain injury.
∙ Rehabilitation after joint surgery including key-hole, ACLR and replacements.
∙ Pre and post-natal advice and core strengthening.
What you can expect from your first visit?
Your first appointment will last between 30 minutes and 45 minutes. The physiotherapist will ask you a variety of questions about your complaint including when and how it started, what makes it feel better or worse and any other relevant medical history. The physiotherapist will then examine the area so please come dressed appropriately and bring some shorts if necessary.
Once the physiotherapist has completed the assessment they will explain to you what they think the problem might be and how it may have been caused. They will then discuss the treatment options and what techniques may be involved, how long it might be expected to take to get better and what you can do at home to treat yourself. The first session will also involve actually treating the problem as well. If you need further treatment sessions, these will be booked as necessary.
How much will a physiotherapy session cost?
Each session with a physiotherapist will cost £30. Payment may be made by cash, cheque or debit card (depending on the therapist you see). Most private healthcare providers and insurance companies are accepted. All our Physiotherapists are BUPA recognised. We also undertake Medico-legal work and provide reports on request from your solicitor.
All our Physiotherapists are fully qualified and registered with the Health Professions Council, Chartered Society of Physiotherapy and Acupuncture Association of Chartered Physiotherapists.
