Massage involves manipulation of the soft tissues of the body the muscles, ligaments, tendons etc. It is beneficial in treating a wide range of conditions. During massage the body relaxes, muscle and skeletal tension eased and the circulation of blood and lymph through the body increased. Massage can also help to open the subtle energy centres of the body so that energy can flow through the channels removing the blocks and congestion which can cause tiredness and dis-ease. There are many different types of massage, involving techniques such as kneading (to induce the body to relax which stimulates the circulation and generally loosens and softens the tissues also having a great warming effect).
How does it work?
Whether it is called therapy or holistic massage, modern massage techniques are based on Swedish Massage, so called not because the Swedish are reputed to enjoy all things sensual; but because its inventor was Swedish.
